Spirit and Life Devotional: Light of men

It's novices who don't yet understand what being a Christian really means, who say things like, "It's my life, I can do whatever I like." They don't want to be answerable to anyone; they want to get away with everything; and they want to do as they please. But we are living epistles, known and read by all men!

The life we received from Christ is not an ordinary one. It's a life that put us in the limelight; it's a life that is meant to inspire change in people, and for that reason, it's always never out of the public eye. John 1:4 says, "In him was light; and the life was the light of men."

The life of God in us is light. Have you noticed that almost every insect moves toward light? Light makes us leaders of some sort. Being made lights, it behoves us to lead men right. Jesus was the light of the world, and He said that whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness (John 8:12). We should all be able to say that boldly without fear of contradiction.

To inspire change in others we've got to be different from them. We are all enjoined to take our faith seriously. If we say we are Christians, then let us be Christians indeed. As men of light, let us also be light of men.
