Spirit and Life Devotional: The David generation

If God keeps comparing other men to one man, making him a yardstick, that man must be remarkable and obviously worth emulating. I'm amazed at the fact that whenever a king was spoken of, the Scripture did not fail to say whether he was like David or not, even many years after his death!

What made David outstanding? The answer is found in 1 Kings 15:3&6: David's heart was said to be loyal to the LORD his God, and he did what was right in the eyes of God, not turning aside from anything that God commanded him all the days of his life, except in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

In his lifetime, David said to Solomon, "Don't let loyalty and faithfulness leave you. Bind them on your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will find favour and approval in the eyes of God and humanity." Proverbs 3:3&4. He obviously practised what he taught. No wonder he was approved and loved by God.

Are there any Davids in our generation? Or are there any willing to be like him? Are there men and women following God wholeheartedly and passionately; determined to do only what God will be pleased with; men and women unwilling to compromise; men and women whose heart are loyal and faithful to God?
