THE POWER OF INFLUENCE
Influence is defined as, "effect on something; power to sway;
special advantage." It is also defined as "the capacity or power of
persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the
actions, behaviour, opinions, etc., of others." Influence can be either
positive or negative.
The problem is that influence can occur unconsciously; the heart,
especially when not properly guarded, is like the soil, very receptive of any
liquid poured on it. Everybody, whether young or old, has the ability to
influence another; so it matters a lot who we associate ourselves with wherever
we are.
Apostle Paul warned, "Do you not know that a little leaven leavens
the whole lump?" 1 Corinthians 5:6. He said elsewhere, "Do not be
deceived: 'Evil company corrupts good habits.'" 1 Corinthians 15:33.
Proverbs 22:24-25 says, "Do not make friends with a hot-tempered
person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways
and get yourself ensnared."
Maybe you've been fighting with a certain bad habit: is it possible that
you're being influenced? Then it's time for a break up. Or is there a great
habit you want or a particular kind of person you desire to become: then it's
time for a hook up. If you truly value your relationship with God then I urge
you to make the right decisions no matter the costs.
