Jesus prayed that we may be one as He and the Father are
one (John 17:20-23), showing us how important it is for us to be united.
There's a level of glory the church will not experience until it is one;
fasting and prayer won't bring that glory down; neither will praise and
worship; only unity will.
In 2 Chronicles 5:13-14, the Scripture says that "It
came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to
be heard in praising and thanking the LORD... that the house, the house of the
LORD, was filled with a cloud, so that the priests could not continue
ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of
God." Wow!
It's more of agreeing and being able to work together,
worship together, fellowship together, struggle together, pray together, fight
together, dwell together peacefully, than having the same beliefs (even though
that is ideal, for we should all come to the unity of faith and of the
knowledge of the Son of God - Ephesians 4:13).
It's a shame that we let irrelevant things create walls
between us; it's a shame that some people cannot attend service at another
church; it's a shame that believers working together can't do things together
because they attend different denominations; it's a shame some think their
pastors are the only voice of God; and it's a shame that some think they are
better than others. No, it's not being focused; it's being immature and
insensitive to the desires of the Spirit! The church needs to be one; standing
fast with one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the
gospel (Philippians 1:27).
