The new iPhone
5s helped attract the longest
lines ever — a record 1,417 people — outside Apple's flagship store in New York
City this week, and now they're all sold out.
Until October, that
is.
Less than 24 hours after the 5S went on sale,
Apple's entire September stock was wiped out, Fortune reported.
On Friday, Apple updated its shipment times for online purchases to reflect
that the gold model wouldn't be ready until October. But now, the Cupertino,
Calif. company's U.S. online store shows the earliest available date to ship
the iPhone 5S in any color (black, space gray or champagne gold) is next month.
Americans aren't the
only ones clamoring for shiny new toys; Apple's online store pushed back ship
dates for the iPhone 5S to October in the UK, France and Germany, as well.
However, Apple's new
colorful budget phone, the iPhone
5C, is available to ship in 24 hours after initial ship times were pushed back
three to seven days.
Apple is no stranger
to high demand. Some analysts estimate that the company will sell 5 million to
6 million iPhones during opening weekend, compared to 5 million when it
released the iPhone 5. Other analysts ave
suggested Apple may sell even more — anywhere between 6 million to 8 million
phones.
