Spirit and Life Devotional: Resisting the Devil

There are believers who are so afraid of satan that they try to avoid his trouble by letting sleeping dogs lie. They think satan is asleep, so they don't want to wake him up. Such people don't know the devil; they don't know how much satan hates them. Satan seeks footholds, always on the move, and while you're trying to avoid him, he's busy consolidating his hold!

Satan is not a being to fear. Whether you think he has some power or not is irrelevant; what matters is that the power in you; the One in you, is far greater than all the powers of the kingdom of darkness combined! It's like a mother hen trying to attack a man; it can attack, but just a kick will settle the matter!

Devil is programmed to flee whenever he is resisted (James 4:7). See how Jesus and the apostles resisted him in the Bible: with just words! Many times they didn't even speak to satan or the demons directly: for instance when they said "be healed", the demon behind the sickness understood that it had been served a quick notice and immediately fled!

In Christ, we are far above principalities and powers; far above witches and wizards; far above whatever they have chosen to be called; and far above all who have willingly submitted their souls to satan. In the name of Jesus, that is, as a representative of Christ here on earth, satan is bound to flee from you. Stop avoiding satan; march right into his strongholds and cause commotion!
