David Frost, Broadcaster and writer, dies at 74

The journalist and broadcaster Sir David Frost has died of a heart attack. He was 74. His family said he had been giving a speech on the Queen Elizabeth  cruise ship on Saturday night.

A statement read: "His family are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. A family funeral will be held in the near future and details of a memorial service will be announced in due course."

Upon the death's announcement, the Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: "My heart goes out to David Frost's family. He could be - and certainly was with me - both a friend and a fearsome interviewer."

Known for his interview technique, he rose to fame after grilling America's disgraced former president Richard Nixon, immortalised in the 2008 film, Frost/Nixon.

He worked for the BBC, ITV and al-Jazeera, in a career which took in politics, world news, comedy and daytime TV. He is survived by his wife Carina and three sons.

RIP David Frost
