Spirit & Life Devotional: Cause changes through prayer

Herod, the king of the Jews stretched out his hand to harass some from the church, and James was killed. Seeing that the Jews were pleased with the killing of James, he proceeded further to seize Peter; hoping to kill him as well. But while Peter was in prison awaiting execution, Acts 12:5 says "constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church." To cut the story short, Peter's life was saved as a result of the prayers of the church.

So why didn't the church pray for James? Were they expecting God to deliver James without their prayers? Why didn't God deliver James? Why was Peter saved only after prayers were made for him?

Understand that prayer is required authorisation for God to intervene and interfere in your affairs. If those two blind men didn't call Jesus, He would have passed by them and they may never have seen with their eyes! Don't sit idly hoping that God would do something about your situation, open your mouth and your heart and pray!

Cause whatever changes you need today through prayer. "Heaven is full of answers to prayers for which no one ever bothered to ask." Billy Graham. "Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tyre?" Corrie Ten Boom. God is so eager to get involved in your life; invite Him in!
