I read this sad story this morning and got me thinking. Why are people so prone to violence?
Here's the story; Adebesin, a landlord who is also a commercial bus driver, returns home for the day at about 7pm yesterday to meet 6 young boys gambling and smoking Indian hemp in his premises. As I would imagine, he questions their presence and actions, an argument ensues and one thing leads to another.
In the heat of the argument, the landlord grabs a gallon of petrol and empties the content on all 6 of the boys. When they see that things just got real they attempt to flee but are ignited by one of the sticks of hemp they were smoking. They suffer high degree burns.
The victims are Adesanya, 20, Sulaiman Adebesin, 20, Saburi Seteolu 18, Raheem Bello 19, Azeez Alabi 20, and Kola Sodeinde 19.
4 of the 6 boys are in a general hospital in Lagos while the other 2 are in private hospitals.
The Landlord has been arrested by the Ogun state Police command where the incident took place.
The story doesn't end there, when boys in the hood hear what happened to the boys, they storm the landlord's compound, vandalize his house and beat up his wife to pulp. She too is now receiving treatment in the hospital.
Now, 7 people are in the hospital fighting for survival, one man is in police custody, I can only imagine his charges if any of those boys die.
