Tragic addiction: Baby drowns in swimming pool as mother checks Facebook (Pictured)

37 year old Kariasa Thomas of Dallas was arrested and charged  with reckless injury to a child, after a 3-year-old drowned while in her care.

Reports indicate that Kariasa and the child’s mother were good friends. It was not uncommon for her to watch the children who ranged in ages from 3 to 7 years old.

Kariasa and her husband reportedly took the children, along with her teenager, to her apartment complex’s pool after the pool was closed. She reportedly told authorities that she only allowed the 3-year-old  to remain on the steps  leading to the pool because she could not swim.

The young girl did not have on a life jacket or any flotation devices.

A police report indicates that things turned tragic in a matter of minutes. Kariasa used her cell phone to log on to Facebook. She stayed on the social media page for about 15 minutes. The 37-year-old woman also told investigators she played with her dog as well. During this time, she did not check on the children.

A Dallas policeman, who worked as a security guard for the complex, approached Thomas to tell her that the pool was closed. It was only then that she called out to the children. But, the three year old did not respond.  Kariasas allegedly borrowed the guard’s flashlight to look for the toddler and stumbled upon the little girl when she stepped into the pool to search for her.

The guard attempted to preform CPR. Emergency services were called. The young girl was rushed to Methodist Charlton Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The little girl had drowned.

Thomas has admitted that she was not paying attention. As a result of her carelessness, she is facing reckless injury to a child charges. Unfortunately, a little girl had to pay the ultimate price.
