Spirit and Life Devotional: YOUR HEART, NOT YOUR GARMENTS

"So rend your heart, and not your garments." Joel 2:13

A lot of people place so much emphasis on outward appearances; they base their own judgments of righteousness, sanctification and holiness on physical appearances, forgetting that Jesus accused the Pharisees and Sadducees of making their exteriors sparkling clean while their hearts were very dirty.

You can never know a man by his outward appearance; because looks are very deceptive; it's stated in the Scriptures that wolves come in sheep clothing. But thank God that He looks at the heart. God is looking for men and women who don't just draw near to Him with their mouths when their hearts are far from Him (Matthew 15:8). Worship is not about the sound of the music, or how well you are able to sing a song; God looks at the heart.

Not that outward appearances don't matter at all, for we are epistles known and read by all men; our outward appearances should also project Christ: the problem is thinking it is the main thing when it's not. It is what comes out of a man's heart that defiles him; he's not defiled by how he looks, what he eats, etc (Matthew 15:18-20).

God seeks true worshippers; men and women who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. In all you do, keep in mind what truly matters.
