Spirit and Life Devotional: Prayer Power

There are different views about prayer: what it is, how to pray, ideal length of prayer, number of times to pray, and so on; but I believe everyone agrees on its effectiveness. "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective." James 5:16b NIV

May I say that you are as powerful as your prayer life. Let me explain: Luke 22:42-43 let's us know that angels strengthened Jesus as He prayed. What it means is that our strength is renewed in prayer. Also, if the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective, it means that the man who prays consistently will accomplish greater things than the one who doesn't. Have you ever wondered why Jesus and all prophets and apostles, both in the Old and New Testaments prayed as much as they did?

Many problems, physical and spiritual, can be traced to "prayerlessness". Prayer makes you alert and alive. Prayer cracks and demolishes the wall of flesh, making it easy both to receive from God and to minister to men. A man who doesn't pray as he should is vulnerable - the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.

Your success as a Christian, and in life generally, depends a lot on your prayer habit. Thankfully, the Holy Spirit is with us to help us pray. Discipline yourself to pray. Pray without ceasing! "The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]."
