Spirit and Life Devotional: Serving Faithfuly

According to Genesis 39:6, Potiphar left all that he had in Joseph's hand, and did not know what he had except for the bread which he ate. That says a lot about Joseph: he must have been an extraordinarily faithful guy to have earned the complete trust of his master. And being in that position of authority, Joseph didn't steal or convert any of Potiphar's property to his.

That reminds me of Jacob in the employ of Laban. Permit me to say that Jacob wasn't as fortunate as Joseph; his boss, Laban, wasn't so kind and generous. But the amazing thing is that Jacob didn't allow his boss' attitude affect his. Here's what Jacob said, "These twenty years I have been with you; your ewes and your female goats have not miscarried their young, and I have not eaten the rams of your flock. That which was torn by beasts I did not bring to you; I bore the loss of it." Genesis 31:38-39

Jesus said, "And if you have not been faithful in that which is another's, who will give you that which is your own?" Luke 16:12. Many people want to own their own businesses and be wealthy, but they are not being good employees and managers of properties of others. Maybe they should stop praying and wishing, and just change.

How great you'll be tomorrow has a correlation with how you're serving today. I encourage you to do a self appraisal to determine how well you have been serving and using what doesn't belong to you. Even if it's public property don't damage it, and when you borrow things, make sure you return them in perfect or same conditions. Remember, "whatever good anyone does, he will receive the same from the Lord, whether he is a slave or free." Ephesians 6:8.
