Spirit and Life Devotional: Pleasant Places

PLEASANT PLACES

You must have heard the saying that your destiny is in your hands. Well, it's both true and false. It's true for those who have decided to determine the courses of their lives by themselves, and false for those who have decided to let God be in control.

Some of us want to determine everything: where we school, where we live, where we work, where we serve, and so on; and there are parents who pay to influence what happens to their kids. It's not all bad, but I'm wondering why we call God Lord if we won't let Him make important decisions for us! Amazingly, we make the decisions but want God to be responsible for the outcomes.

Psalm 16:5 says, "You, LORD, are my portion, my cup; you control my destiny." And verse 6 says, "Your boundary lines mark out pleasant places for me. Indeed, my inheritance is something beautiful." Those who trust God with their destinies end up with the very best for them.

God's plans for your life are good. Cease being jumpy and impatient. Maybe you should also cease being omniscient (all-knowing); only God is and you can trust Him with your life. Pleasant places await you as you yield to Him.
