Glee star Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, was found dead at the Pacific Rim Hotel in Vancover.
I'm a huge Glee fan, and I particularly love Finn's character. This is shocking. So shocking!!!
I will miss him.
The Vancouver police held a press conference moments ago, confirming the young star's death. They went on to further explain that last night, after Cory missed his checkout time, hotel staff went up to his room to investigate. It was then that Cory was found deceased, apparently for several hours.
Police responded within minutes of receiving a call from the BC Ambulance Service regarding a sudden death in a room on the 21st floor of the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel at 1038 Canada Place in downtown Vancouver.
Monteith's family was only notified of his passing an hour before the press conference was held at 10:30 PM Pacific time Saturday night.
The police have reviewed hotel video tapes and have confirmed that Cory was alone when he returned to his room last night. Upon further investigation of the scene, they confirmed that his death was not caused by foul play. As for the actual cause of death, the coroner announced that her department will need to run further tests to know for sure.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
"We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," Cory's publicist, Melissa Kates, said in an e-mail of his passing.
Monteith had checked in to the Fairmont Pacific Rim on July 6th. Police HAVE already spoken to some of the people he had in his room the days leading up to his death.
Cory had openly spoken about his addiction issues as a teenager. He told Parade magazine in 2011 that he began using drugs at 13, and by 19 went into rehab after his mother and friends intervened. He suffered a relapse earlier this year and checked himself into rehab again in April.
Vancouver police would not confirm yet whether any drug paraphernalia was found in his room.
More details should be available in the next few days.
He will be truly and utterly missed.
He will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.
