Tina Turner Drops Her U.S. Citizenship

American music icon and longtime Switzerland resident, Tina Turner formally filed paperwork with the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland on Oct. 24 to relinquish her United States citizenship, declaring that she “has no plans to reside in the United States in the future.” Apparently she signed the “Statement of Voluntary Relinquishment of U.S. Citizenship.”

Earlier this year the 73 year old Grammy Award-winner  was granted Swiss citizenship after passing a local civics test and interview. Prior to this she has lived there for over twenty years.

"I'm very happy in Switzerland and I feel at home here,” she told a German newspaper in January. “I cannot imagine a better place to live."

In July Tina Turner got married to 57 year old music executive, Erwin Bach at the couple’s Swiss lakeside estate near Zurich.

Isn’t life ironic? While so many people are striving to get a U.S. citizenship, Tina Turner is voluntarily giving hers up? It’s good to have choices in life.

Lets remind ourselves just how iconic Tina Turner is, watch the video of her song “What’s Got Love to Do With It” after the cut
