4 Passengers Collapse at Murtala Muhammed International Airport

A sad incident occurred at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Friday 29th November as 4 people collapsed on their arrival to Lagos due to excessive heat. The passengers just disembarked from a Delta Airline flight from the United States and were waiting to claim their luggage, the cooling system at the hall was bad and over 1,000 people were in the hall at the time.

The passengers who were coming from a cooler environment couldn't just stand it. I mean who can stand such suffocation? No one. Lagos is hot enough already, the least they can do is have working cooling systems.

According to reports, 2 of the 4 passengers were rushed to the hospital in an ambulance belonging to the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).

As usual, the general manager, public affairs of FAAN, Yakubu Dati, said the situation was exaggerated by online reports.

Another FAAN official (contacted by The Leadership) who preferred anonymity said the unhealthy situation at the arrival hall of the airport was not new to most air travelers who had had to contend with it as they passed through immigration and baggage collection.

  1. This is ridiculous and embarrassing. Why isn't the cooling system working? I don't get such negligence. Nigerian's have no sense of excellence. It doesn't bother them when things are not working, I am a Nigerian by the way, so I know.
