Are you happy? Is your life perfect? There are many people who may argue
that happiness and perfection do not go hand in hand. As much as you cannot be
perfect for all, you can create your own perfect happy life. In short, you are
going to have moments where the imperfections scream out louder than the good,
but generally, it is good to make every effort to maintain a life which is
mostly happy. This can be done by doing the following:
1. Understand What Makes You Happy
What makes someone else happy may not necessarily make you happy.
Everyone has their own unique list of things that make them happy. Therefore,
for you to be happy, start by thinking about what exactly makes you happy. You
can even take some time and put this down in a notebook so that when you are
sad, you look at your list and pick on something that is appropriate for the
time.
2. Spend More Time with Happy People
Happiness can be contagious; but so is sadness. Therefore, if you
surround yourself with sad and negative people most of the time, you'll find
yourself slowly slumping into that sadness. On the other hand, if you keep
yourself around people who are bright, positive and happy, it will be easier
for you to have continued happiness.
3. Set goals and Get Things Done
One of the things that keep people sad is the fact that they may start
something and leave it hanging in the middle. Avoid starting things that you
are not sure of finishing. When you set on doing something, do your best to get
it done to the full. The continuous feeling of achievement will make and keep
you happy. At old age, when you look back at all the great things that you have
achieved, you will feel like you had a life well spent.
4. Have Some "Me" Time
Many times we value our careers more than our personal happiness. We
therefore end up living our lives around our careers and rarely spend time to
make ourselves happy. Decide to change this and take some time daily doing
something you really like. Make sure you have total control of this time. You
can take yourself out for lunch, take a relaxing bath or take a nice stroll
round the park among other ideas that you may find interesting.
5. Don't Take Things Too Seriously
Over-thinking or taking things too seriously may lead you to constant
sadness and anxiety. On the other hand, ask yourself what's the worst that
could happen. When doing something, have the best and worse scenarios in mind.
You may realize that the worst result may not be so bad after all. Even if it
will be so bad, you'll have already been prepared for it and you can still
maintain your happiness.
6. Listen to Uplifting Music
The music you listen has a bigger effect in your life than you may know.
Music has often been used to influence people's moods and even decisions. When
in the local store, you may find yourself being pulled to buy something simply
because of the song they play in their advertisement. The same is true for our
happiness. Constantly listening to uplifting music will positively influence
our moods and keep us happy and positive.
7. Stay Healthy
Whether you are rich or poor, good health is of utmost importance. This
does not mean that people who are unhealthy are always unhappy. What it means
is that there is a significant chance that poor health can negatively affect
your happiness.
8. Show Gratitude for the Things You Have
No matter how many bad things are going on in your life, there is always
a great thing to be thankful for. Even when in the worst of situations, always
look out for something which you can be grateful for. This will help you to be
happy whether rich or poor, sick or healthy or in any other situation in life.
