Following Jesus costs something; sometimes it's very
costly, and at other times it's not so costly. And it depends on the stage of
your walk with Him; when you are about entering a new level, there's usually a
new demand for you to give up something else.
You really can't follow Christ without making a
sacrifice. For Peter and the other disciples, it was giving up their jobs and
businesses; they abandoned everything and followed Christ. For some others,
their most cherished habits are what they'll need to sacrifice; and others
their comfort.
Don't feel pained losing anything for Christ; instead
count them as rubbish! Apostle Paul said, "But what things were gain to
me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things
loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I
have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may
gain Christ." Philippians 3:7-8.
But it's not really a loss, it's an exchange for better
things. It's losing a few to gain a lot! Hallelujah! Jesus said,
"Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers
or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and
the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and
brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and
in the age to come, eternal life." A hundredfold sounds better!
