The Deaf Federation of South Africa has said that the interpreter who signed Nelson Mandela’s memorial on Thursday for deaf viewers was a fake.
The man who can be seen in the video above, signed some portions of the August ceremony which held in Soweto at the FBN Stadium including US President Barack Obama ‘s speech and the tributes by Nelson Mandela’s grandchildren.
Reports say that deaf viewers in the stadium and those at home would have made little sense of yesterday’s proceedings because the yet to be identified man was simply ‘making up his own signs’.
Bruno Druchen, National Director of the Deaf Federation of South African tweeted as the ceremony was going on yesterday, “Please get RID of this CLOWN interpreter please!”
