“I believe that health care reform will be the right thing for the country . . . It certainly wasn’t the smart ‘political’ thing! And I hope that in the months to come, you will keep an open mind and evaluate it based not on the political attacks but on what it does or doesn’t do to improve people’s lives. Sincerely, Barack Obama.”
"Thanksgiving was the holiday that I always spent with my dad skiing every year in Vail, Colorado since I was two years old to 22. This time of year always brings back such amazing memories. I am thankful I had them.
I am so thankful for my family being close and always so supportive. I am extra thankful this year for my baby girl and am so happy I get to spend this Thanksgiving as a family with my daughter and fiancé.
I wish you all a good healthy happy thanksgiving from our family to yours... Don't eat too much."
Hundreds of ex-Nigeria Airways workers, yesterday, stormed the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos, threatening to sabotage the floating of a new national carrier, Nigerian Eagle as proposed by the Federal Government until their N70billion severance benefits were fully paid.
The ex-Nigeria Airways staff, who protested peacefully at the airport, chanted solidarity songs and displayed placards with inscriptions such as “A labourer deserves his wages,” “Pay us our 20 years benefits,” among others.
The workers lamented that they were only paid five years benefits in 2007 out of the 25 years pay off that was recommended by the inter ministerial report to the government.
They claimed other ex-workers of Nigeria Airways in London, USA, Italy and other parts of the world were fully paid 25 years severance benefits, arguing that all they wanted at the moment was for the government to pay them the remaining 20 years.
Today, Tuesday, November 26, 2013, my friend and client, Alhaji Mujahid Dokubo-Asari, was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic, around the hours of 1:00pm and 2:00pm by the country’s gendarmes (Police Force). He was picked up around the Lubeleyi roundabout and taken to an unknown destination. We want to emphasize that Alhaji Dokubo-Asari carries on legitimate business and has been living partly in Benin Republic for many years now. In fact, he owns houses, schools and an academy in that country. All these places have been searched as at this evening and nothing incriminating was found. We think his arrest and detention is a ploy by certain forces in Nigeria in unholy alliance with the Beninoise government to keep him away as 2015 approaches. We call on the Nigerian government to immediately intervene and ensure that no harm befalls Alhaji Dokubo-Asari and to use all diplomatic means to secure his immediate release and safe return to Nigeria.Meanwhile, we shall be liaising immediately with our colleagues in that country to enforce his fundamental rights.
