Watch Out: 4 Harmful Chemicals That Hide In Your Drinking Water

When you buy a filter for your faucet or a pitcher with a filter in it you may think that your drinking water is perfectly safe. This is not true as there are some chemicals that these filters cannot keep out and they are dangerous ones.

If you are worried about your drinking water check the plant from the town that the water is being supplied by and see if they are going through any of the treatments necessary to rid these chemicals from the water in the first place. Here are the four chemicals that could be really dangerous for you and may still be hiding in your drinking water:

1. Lead: This is a dangerous one, especially for children. Your normal lead levels in your blood are under 10 µg/dL. Once you get in the 10 to 25 range you have lead building up in your system. 25 to 40 means that you have regular exposure to lead and anything over 80 will cause permanent damage and could even cause death. The water can pick up the lead by traveling through the pipes.

2. Copper: This metal is also found in the pipes that your water travels through. Frequent exposure to it has been show to change the way the brain works and has even thought to be one of the causes of Alzheimer’s.

3. Arsenic: Arsenic is poison to the human body. Even low levels of it can cause serious lung damage. High exposure in the water to arsenic can cause damage in the lungs that would be equivalent to someone who has smoked for decades.

4. Chlorine: Pools have chlorine to kill the bacteria that is swimming around in there, but it is not meant for drinking. The chlorine can actually team up with vegetation that is decaying and form trihalomethane which is a known carcinogen.
